Created in 2017 as part of an award winning Gold Crest @royalsocietynz research project, investigating the synergy of indigenous plants to repel insects. The two active ingredients in kawakawa which repel insects are Elemicin and Myristicin. These are coupled with lemon eucalyptus and citronella to make up our ever popular and effective Bugs Away formula.

INGREDIENTS:

Kawakawa infused olive oil
Lemon eucalyptus essential oil (corymbia citriodora)
Citronella essential oil (cymbopogon winterianus)
Sodium chloride
Distilled water

CREATED WITH:

No parabens and no animal derivatives. 

HOW TO USE:

Shake well before use. Spray liberally to exposed areas. Reapply when required or after being in the water.

    Does Zoe’s Kawakawa balm help with eczema?

    Yes, Zoe’s Kawakawa balm has helped many people with relieving eczema symptoms. This is because kawakawa leaves contain two strong active ingredients - Myristicin and Elemicin which are anti-inflammatory markers reducing itching and pain.

    What connection does Zoe’s Kawakawa hold to mātauranga Māori and the iwi of Manawatū?

    In 2012, when Zoe began her science fair project, she connected with the local Rangitāne iwi of Manawatū to seek guideance. Zoe’s Kawakawa regularly seeks guidance and support around respecting and celebrating mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge) and rongoā Māori (Māori medicine) rather than appropriating knowledge. The mātauranga of kawakawa’s healing properties was discovered and developed by Māori, and guardianship of this mātauranga will always be theirs. The team at Zoe’s Kawakawa invest in rangatahi Māori (youth) at local schools to support and whakanui (celebrate) Te Ao Māori (the Māori world).

    Can I use Zoe’s Kawakawa products on my baby?

    Yes, it is safe to use Zoe’s Kawakawa balm (60ml) on your baby. It’s antimicrobial, reduces inflammation, helps with circulation, is soothing, and moisturizing for baby skin which is sensitive and dry. Essential oils should not be used on babies under three months old - therefore, Zoe’s Kawakawa lip-balms and aromatic balms should only be used on babies over three months old.

    Can I use Zoe’s Kawakawa balm on my pets?
    Yes, Zoe’s Kawakawa balm is great for animals, moistening skin, healing injuries, especially on itchy rashy paws and noses. Animals may try to lick the balm off, however it is not toxic to your pet. 

    Is the packing recyclable?
    Yes, all glass and aluminum are recyclable. Unfortunately the spray pump is not yet recyclable in Aotearoa, hopefully soon. 

    Can I get a refill?
    Yes, Zoe’s Kawakawa spray refills are currently available at Good House Keeping on Cuba Street in Wellington, and we are exploring refill options in other parts of Aotearoa too, for the balms and spray. Contact us if you would like to purchase a refill bottle.

    Where do you get your ingredients from?

    Kawakawa and Mānuka is grown and harvested in Te Papaioaea, Palmerston North. The other ingredients - beeswax, olive oil and essential oils are sourced locally where possible.
